Allergy Shot Alternative - Allergy Drops Replace Allergy Shots

Google Square Ad

Wouldn't you rather take something orally to fight your allergies rather than see your allergist every week for injections?  In Italy, France and Germany, many people are doing just that.  Rather than going through a regimen of allergy shots, some Europeans take an oral medication that is absorbed into the bloodstream.  Treatment can be done at home, which saves gas and time as well.  Allergen drops are placed under the tongue and are absorbed by the body.  The medical term for this treatment is sublingual immunotherapy.

The United States has not jumped on the bandwagon yet.  American doctors are still researching the benefits as well as the downfalls of this type of allergy treatment.  In Europe, those taking the allergens orally rather than by injection are not all relieved from their allergies.  Some with higher dosages did not have long term relief, while others had short term relief with only small dosages.

Studies are currently being conducted on dosages and effectiveness.  Once these have been completed, pharmaceutical companies will begin seeking FDA approval for this type of allergy treatment.
