Arthritis can cause painful swollen joints in both young and old. In the past,
arthritis pain was not linked to foods. Yet new research is finding particular
foods can exacerbate symptoms of arthritis. Foods now known to seemingly worsen
arthritis include salt, caffeine, fats, corn, wheat, eggs, sugar, red meat and
nightshade plants such as eggplant and tomatoes. Interestingly, also included
as one of the top offenders is dairy.
Patients are finding that diets rich in vegetables (other than nightshade
varieties), non-citrus fruits, grains and beans significantly decrease, if not
stop, arthritis pain. Many who stopped dairy found symptoms greatly improved.
The culprit appears to be the protein found in milk.
The good side? Those suffering from arthritis may find removing dairy from
their diets may significantly improve their arthritic symptoms. Furthermore, if
you have a milk allergy, you may be less likely to suffer from painful
arthritis.
